Who We Are

There is a genuine sense of community and inclusion at St. Andrew and St. George.  The strength of our parish is our people.  We offer sincere love, warmth and unity and a diversity of talents and gifts.  A core group of people offer their time, resources, energy and talents.  We are inclusive, tolerant, socially committed and a very responsible group of 'down to earth' people.  We have a strong worship tradition, emphasizing music and the liturgy.

Our Minister

Canon Neil Elliot is the minister of St. Andrew & St. George's Church. Like all ministers, Rev. Neil wears many hats. He is:

And the newest hat:  Regional Dean for the Kootenay and Kokanee regions of the Diocese!

Our Congregations

While we are all one family at St. Andrew's, the church membership is divided into three weekly congregations:

• The 8:00 Sunday service uses the Book of Common Prayer and has music one Sunday a month. This service is attended by mainly senior parishioners, averaging 15-20 weekly. The service is quieter with a more reflective mood.
• The 10:00 Sunday service uses the Book of Alternative Services. This service is attended by people of all ages, averaging 50 people weekly. It has a more energetic feel to it and has instrumental music with choir and congregational singing. This service is followed by a coffee fellowship.
• The 10:00 Wednesday service uses the Book of Common Prayer, with no music. Approximately eight faithful women attend this service.

During July and August there the 8 and 10 a.m. Congregations join together in one Sunday service at 9:00 AM with music.

Church Groups

Our many church groups are an essential part of parish life at St. Andrews. The Altar Guild helps the priest by caring for the sanctuary and the sacramental vessels, and by setting up for worship services and tidying up afterwards. These dedicated folks see to lists for flower donations, volunteers to bring bread and wine, and even laundering soiled altar linens. The Food Bank (one Tuesday a month) is run by volunteers with the help of donations of food and money, providing assistance to those who need it. Pastoral Visitors provide regular contact and outreach to home-bound parishioners. Various Study Groups meet in parish homes on a regular basis. Leslie Elliot (Rev. Neil's wife) and a team of volunteers provide Sunday School for children in the church. The choir provides music for the 10:00 Sunday service, and consists of a professional organist/pianist, a guitarist, a flautist, and a dedicated group of singers.

Lay Leadership

The Parish of St. Andrew and St. George is known for its strong lay leadership during worship. Lay ministers include:

• Ministers of Word and Sacrament, who assist the priest during regular services.
• Choir and Music Ministry Team, who provide music to enhance our worship.
• Greeters who welcome all to church services.
• Lectors who read the Bible readings during services.
• Communion Assistants who assist in distributing communion.
• Servers, who provide assistance during services.
• Altar Guild, who prepare the church for services and clear up afterwards.
• Prayer Leaders, who offer prayers for healing for anyone wanting prayer after communion.
